You will hear a conversation between two people discussing a problem and its solutions. Your task is to understand the problem, solutions, and decisions.

CELPIP Listening Exam Format Breakdown

Part 1: Problem-Solving

  • **Format:** 3 short conversations in sequence (~30–60 seconds each). Each conversation has 2–3 multiple-choice questions. Audio plays once. Questions appear under the audio after or during playback.
  • **Focus:** Identify the problem and solutions. Understand who is responsible or what decision is made. Pay attention to key details like numbers, time, or locations.
  • **Example Question Flow:** Dialogue 1 β†’ 3 questions; Dialogue 2 β†’ 2 questions; Dialogue 3 β†’ 3 questions.

Part 2: Daily Life Conversation

  • **Format:** One informal conversation (~1–2 minutes). Questions (4–5) appear under the audio. You click answers while listening or immediately after.
  • **Focus:** Reasons and motivations of speakers. Opinions and suggestions. Small details like time, place, or actions.

Part 3: Listening for Information

  • **Format:** Audio: announcement, instructions, or schedule (~1–2 minutes). Questions (5–6) appear after the audio. Screen may show related text or picture (like a timetable or map).
  • **Focus:** Identify specific factual details (time, location, rules). Pay attention to numbers, dates, and exact words. Usually only one correct answer per question.

Part 4: News Item

  • **Format:** Short news report (~1–2 minutes). Questions (4–5) appear under or after the audio. Audio plays once.
  • **Focus:** Main idea of the news story. Facts and cause-effect relationships. Inference from context (e.g., why something happened).

Part 5: Discussion

  • **Format:** Group discussion (~2–3 minutes, 2–3 speakers). Questions (5–8) appear after the audio. You click the correct option based on what was said.
  • **Focus:** Who agrees/disagrees. Decisions made during the discussion. Supporting reasons and opinions of each speaker.

Part 6: Listening to Viewpoints

  • **Format:** One speaker expresses their opinion (~1–2 minutes). Questions (5–6) appear under the audio. Audio plays once.
  • **Focus:** The main opinion and the reasons given to support it.
